If you would like to direct a domain that you have to some other domain address or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain address being redirected loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it's directed to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be forwarded to the website that you have set up, but it'll also be displayed in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because this type of a record set up for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.
CNAME Records in Shared Hosting
Setting up a CNAME record using our shared hosting is quite simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel includes a section committed to the DNS records of your domain addresses, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in a couple of basic steps. There is also a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you various opportunities - if you build a company site on our end, for instance, the staff can use their e-mails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you want to set up a website using a different company that offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain address hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, in case you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you may set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain name, so all your clients are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Managing DNS records usually appears to be a hard task to people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each semi-dedicated server which we provide, is extremely simple to use. If you would like to set up a CNAME record for any purpose, all you will have to do will be to choose the domain or subdomain you need, pick the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then input the value i.e. the domain or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is very easy and you can set up the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record is going to be 100 % active and within a couple of hours it'll propagate around the world. If you're not sure what you should do, we have prepared an in depth help article and a short video tutorial regarding how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both situated in that very same section of Hepsia. Of course, you can also get in touch with us for help at any moment.
