SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol employed to exchange encoded data between a client and a website hosting server, making it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any information. Many tech-savvy customers choose SSH mainly because of the better security level. The connection is established and the commands are sent through a command line. The accessible options depend on the type of hosting service - on a shared server, in particular, files may be moved or deleted, databases could be imported and exported, and archives could be created or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, your choices are a lot more - the web server and the database server could be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software could be installed and more. These things are not possible on a shared server, for the reason that full root access is needed and all the other clients on that server shall be affected. While SSH is employed primarily with UNIX-like OSs, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, etc.
SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting
SSH access is available with all shared hosting we offer you. With some of them, it's included by default, while with others it's an optional upgrade which you can add with several clicks from your web hosting Control Panel. You can get SSH access from the section related to it in which you will also find the details which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could pick the password that you'll use and, if necessary, you'll be able to modify it with several clicks from the same place. All the commands which can be used with our shared packages are listed within a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access function is allowed for your account, you shall also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is available by default with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you will be able to include it from the hosting Control Panel if necessary - even only for the current month. In any case, you can activate and de-activate the function with just one mouse click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll find the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box where you can type the password that you would like to use, since it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better protection, you can also change it as much as you want. A complete list of the commands which can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and a number of instances. An extra feature after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this type of connections.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
You shall be able to use SSH to handle your content regardless of which VPS plans you pick when you sign up, since all our packages come with this feature as standard. You will not need to add or enable anything manually - the minute your web server is ready and you receive the Welcome e-mail with the login details, you can connect and start working on your web sites or any software that you want to install and run on the hosting server. You will have root-level access to the VPS and due to the fact that the account shall be isolated from all of the other accounts inside the physical server, you shall be able to do anything you want without any restrictions. You could install any application you need and that will work on a Linux-based web server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases easily and quickly.
